v360marine & Keelson Marine Assurance unveil plans for JV
Keelson Marine Assurance LLC and V360 Marine Limited have announced they are to form a joint venture (JV) – Keelson VR LLC – designed to develop innovative immersive technology solutions for the Oil & Gas sector.
Both companies formed a global partnership back in July and have since developed a demonstration VR simulator specifically for Oil & Gas, which was presented at the annual MTS Dynamic Positioning Conference in Houston, Texas (9 & October 2018). The response was so overwhelming that the companies decided to create Keelson VR LLC, which will be based in Houston.
Managing Partner of Keelson Marine, Elizabeth Dann said, “We were very confident that the Oil & Gas industry would be receptive to the concept of using VR for training and project planning, but we didn’t expect quite the level of excitement we generated, and not just because of the technology but the applications it could be applied to. To hear the ideas being discussed about how we could develop solutions across the industry was fantastic and a sure sign we are hitting the right notes.”
Sam Slater, C.E.O. at V360 Marine added “We were genuinely overwhelmed with the response we received from everyone we met; from small consultancies to major offshore giants, we couldn’t have asked for a more positive introduction to the offshore industry. Work has already started on a number of projects and we see the future of Keelson VR being very exciting to say the least!”.
The JV is a natural progression of the partnership which had been previously formed and is a clear statement of intent from both companies who are highly successful in their own right and share a very clear vision. Senior Partner of Keelson Marine, Mat Bateman added, “Having worked with the team at V360 Marine for a few months now it’s obvious we share a view that colliding maritime experts with the emerging new technologies is hugely powerful. To have highly experienced expert consultant mariners from Keelson interact with V360Marine developers with their background as leaders in applying gaming technology into industry sectors has been an amazing experience.”
For the JV to offer the full potential to the market there is a lot of work to do and a new VR facility has been created by the JV partners to provide unfettered access to the technology for clients based in Houston, Texas. “To be able to provide a local facility where clients and contributors can ‘give it a go’ is very important to our strategy moving forward. We are committed to developing this technology here in the Gulf of Mexico Keelson VR is already recruiting from the local area to develop a local company with a local team providing not only ground-breaking innovation into industry but also a sustainable conduit for talent from universities and the digital technology community in and around Houston,” Mat said.
Sam adds, “We will be spending as much time as needed in Texas to ensure the development and ongoing management of Keelson VR is as seamless as possible. This is a long-term commitment and we are very excited to be making Houston our second home. The new office space and VR facility will be outstanding, and we couldn’t be happier with the location in Republic Square, which is in the heart of the energy corridor here in Houston.”
The new office space and VR facility will be used for more than just development of applications: the intent is to host regular workshops and open days for companies and other interested people to experience the technology first hand and discuss potential applications and projects. Keelson VR’s Head of Technology, Rick Hooson says, “Having a space that can be used for demonstrations and testing is key to ensuring we are meeting the needs of both the companies we serve and the local digital industry as a whole. We want to integrate and support the local digital sector and having this facility will certainly help establish strong relationships between the respective organisations and stakeholders.”
The team there are very keen to speak to anyone who would be interested in knowing more about the plan moving forward, whether you are an organisation looking for immersive technology solutions, an academic body thinking about working with Keelson VR, or would like to find out about work already underway, feel free to contact Mat Bateman at firstname.lastname@example.org or Sam Slater at email@example.com and watch this space for more announcements as they happen.
